What Is New in 2026

The visa bond

  • The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria says that from 21 January 2026, Nigerian nationals found otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa must post a bond of up to $15,000.
  • The consular officer tells you at your interview whether it applies to you, and gives instructions on how to pay.
  • Do not use any third-party website to post the bond, and do not pay before the officer tells you to. The embassy says the visa cannot be issued until the bond is paid.
  • Other US measures affecting Nigerian applicants, including short visa validity, have been reported this year. Rules change often, so check the official pages below before you pay or plan.
  • Official pages: U.S. Embassy Nigeria, visas and U.S. Department of State.
How it works

How a US Visitor Visa Application Works

Follow the current instructions on the embassy website for booking and fees.

  1. Complete the DS-160

The online application form. Every answer must be your own and truthful.

  2. Pay the fee and book

Pay the visa application fee and book your interview as the embassy instructs.

  3. Attend the interview

Bring your passport, confirmation and supporting documents.

  4. Follow the officer's instructions

If you are found eligible, the officer tells you whether a bond applies and how to pay it.

FAQ

USA Visa Questions

How much is the US visa application fee?

The embassy lists US$185 for common nonimmigrant visas. Fees change, so check the current figure. This is a US government fee and is separate from our service fee, and from any bond.

Do I have to pay a bond?

The embassy says Nigerian B1/B2 applicants found otherwise eligible must post a bond of up to $15,000 before the visa is issued. The officer tells you at the interview and gives payment instructions. Do not pay before then, and do not use third-party websites.

What is a B-1/B-2 visa?

B-1 covers temporary business activities, B-2 covers tourism and similar visits, and B-1/B-2 combines the two.

Can you guarantee approval?

No. No legitimate consultant can guarantee a US visa. We help you prepare properly and truthfully.

Do I need an interview?

Interview requirements depend on the applicant and current US rules. Follow the instructions from the embassy.

Can you help me prepare for the interview?

Yes. We explain the purpose of the interview and how to answer clearly and honestly. The answers must be your own.

Can you help with flights and a hotel?

Yes. See flight booking and hotel reservation. Do not buy non-refundable tickets before your visa is issued.
