How it works

How to Apply for a South Africa Visa from Nigeria

This follows the visa centre's published checklist. Always use the current checklist and instructions for your application.

  1. Prepare your documents

Complete Form BI-84 in black ink and gather the documents on the checklist.

  2. Get your yellow fever certificate

It is required for travellers from Nigeria. Bring the original, fully completed card.

  3. Submit with biometrics

Submit through VFS Global in Nigeria, or the South African High Commission in Abuja, as your checklist directs.

  4. Wait for the decision

Decisions can take many weeks. Do not buy non-refundable tickets before you have your visa.

Stays over 90 days: the checklist says these are treated as a permit, not a visitor visa, and must be applied for at the High Commission.
Official sources: VFS Global visitor visa checklist (Nigeria) and the South African Department of Home Affairs. Fees and rules change, so confirm them there.
